Goodbye. 谢谢再见 In the future, you can say 以后你们就可以说 Hello, where are you from 你好你是哪里人 Then he might say 那他可能会说 I'm Fujianese 我是福建人 You then could say 你就可以说啊 I know Fujian 我知道福建 Fujian is a good place 福建是个好地方 Cantonese like to eat fujianese the most 广东人就最喜欢吃福建人了 Is it? 对不对 The Chinese guy will be surprised 那中国人一定会觉得非常吃惊 You even know this joke 你连这个梗都知道 Well 好的 Let's walk into Fujian now 那我们现在就走进福建 Fujian 福建 Fujian, southeast coastal city of China 福建中国东南沿海城市 Now when we hear about coastal cities, most of us may think 现在我们听到沿海城市大部分人可能都会觉得：嗯~~~ Rich 有钱 Rich 有钱 vulgar tycoon 土豪土豪 But in the underdeveloped ages 可是在技术不发达以前 People's life in Fujian coastal areas totally relies on the sea 福建沿海地区人民靠海吃海 Where there is no sea 没有海的地方呢 Just relies on the mountain 就靠山吃山 Basically depending on the God 所以也是看老天 So life at that time was actually relatively poor. 所以那个时候的生活其实是比较穷的 By the way, the abbreviation of Fujian is min3 顺便提一下福建的简称是闽 Look at this Chinese character 大家看这个汉字 Min is a worm in a door 闽是一个门里边一条虫 Why do we use this word to represent Fujian 为什么用这个汉字来代表福建呢 The most well known explanation is 比较多的说法是 Because it's the huge worm actually refers to the snake 因为这里的虫指的是大虫也就是蛇 There are many mountains in Fujian 那福建因为有很多山 There are indeed many snakes, too 的确也有很多蛇 Secondly, because the snake is the prototype of the dragon 其次也因为蛇作为龙的原型 People in some places used to worship snakes as dragons 以前有些地方的人是把蛇当作龙来崇拜的 So later 好 待会 Many of the things I've introduced to you include the word min 我跟大家介绍的很多东西里面会包含闽这个字 That is why I explained this word 所以跟大家简单的说明一下这个字是怎么来的 Now I want to introduce 那现在我要跟大家介绍的 The first part of Fujian is THE FOOD! 福建的第一部分就是饮食 Most Fujianese prefer light taste food 福建人的口味总体是偏清淡的 Especially the coastal part 特别是沿海的部分啊 Because of eating seafood 因为吃海鲜 Making it lighter is better 所以肯定吃的是比较清淡的 Um. 嗯 Of course, people in some areas prefer more salty dishes 当然也不排除有些地方吃的会比较咸 Fujian cuisine is also called MIN Cuisine 福建菜也叫做闽菜 It is one of the eight major cuisines in China 它是中国的八大菜系之一 The most famous one, I think, is Buddha jumping over the wall 其中最有名的我觉得应该是佛跳墙 It usually contains abalone 佛跳墙通常用的是鲍鱼 Sea cucumber 海参 Fish lips 鱼唇 Yellow cattle hide Glue 黄牛皮胶 oyster mushroom 杏鲍菇 tendons, flower mushrooms 蹄筋花菇 Cuttlefish 墨鱼 Scallop 瑶柱 Quail eggs, etc 鹌鹑蛋等汇聚到一起 Add broth and Fujian old wine 加入高汤和福建老酒 Cooking it for hours 文火慢炖 It sounds expensive 听起来就很贵 So... 所以呢 You can't really order it in ordinary restaurants 一般的饭店是不可以点 Normally you will see this dish if you go to the wedding dinner of Fuzhou people 这个菜的一般是要去吃福州人的喜酒才会有 It's a strange name 那这个名字很奇怪 Why is it called: Buddha jumping over the wall 为什么叫佛跳墙 Because this dish is so delicious 因为这道菜太好吃了 Even the Buddhist monk who doesn't eat meat smells this dish 连信佛不吃肉的和尚闻到这道菜 He can't help jumping out to eat 都忍不住跳墙出去吃 Fujian has so many delicious food 福建好吃的真的太多太多了 The most famous food in China is Shaxian food 在全中国最有名的就是沙县小吃 Shaxian is a county in Sanming, Fujian Province 沙县是福建三明里边的一个县城 The authentic ones and not authentic ones can be different 那正宗的沙县小吃和不正宗的沙县小吃会有一些区别 If you go to China 如果你们去中国啊 You can find those not so authentic ones 你们可以尝到很多不正宗的沙县小吃 So let me introduce you the authentic one 所以我给大家介绍一下正宗的 Because many of my friends are in Shaxian 因为我很多朋友在沙县 So I often go to Shaxian 所以我也常常去沙县 The most classical ones including: bian rou 沙县小吃里面最经典的一般有扁肉 Or wonton 也可以叫馄饨 Actually 其实 The correct way to read this word is hun2tun5 这个字的正确读法应该是馄饨 But it seems that all Chinese read in this（wrong） way 可是好像全中国人都是这么读的 I'm not sure 我也不确定 If you go to a restaurant and say 如果你去一个饭店说 "I want a bowl of hun2 tun5" is it understandable? 我要一碗馄饨 老板能不能明白 But if you say hun2dun4 但是如果你说馄饨 Everyone will understand 大家一定都明白 ok another well known one is the Shaxian noodle and also... 好 然后还有一个很经典的是拌面 在沙县里边常常可以吃到 Shaomai Yujiao 比如说烧卖 芋饺 Fried rice noodles 炒米粉 Duck head 鸭头 Duck, etc 板鸭等等等等 It is said that there are more than one hundred types 据说一共有一百多种 So I won't introduce each one to you 所以我就不一一和大家介绍了 Yong'an food is another popular one in Fujian 还有一个在福建比较受欢迎的是永安小吃 I really like that when I went back home, I ate almost every day 我非常喜欢 我回国的时候几乎每一天都在吃 Yong'an is also a place of Sanming 永安也是三明的一个地方 yong'an foods mainly include flat rice noodle in pork bone soup 那永安小吃主要有大骨汤粿条 Then pig cheek and intestine in chilli sauce 然后拌活肉 拌肠头 And many other kinds of cold dishes 还有拌各种各样的东西 The sauce is made with very spicy yellow chilli 他们用的是很辣的黄椒做的酱 So it's really delicious 所以真的非常好吃 Next, I'd like to introduce Southern Fujian food 接下来给大家介绍一下闽南风味小吃 I've had specail noodle and "vineger pork" 我吃过的有 面线糊 醋肉 The name makes no sense to me. It has nothing to do with vinegar(actually it has) 这个名字听起来毫无道理和醋一点关系都没有啊 And oyster omelette 还有海蛎煎 And pork roll 还有五香卷 And fruits dessert for summer 还有很适合夏天吃的四果汤 And sate noodles which taste a bit sweet 还有沙茶面沙茶面的味道偏甜 I think it's a little bit like LAKSA 我觉得有一点点像LAKSA But there is no coconut flavor like Laksa 但是没有LAKSA的椰香味 Actually personally I don't like it 其实我个人不喜欢 Because I don't like sweet food 因为我不喜欢吃甜的 And then there is a wicked one called worm aspic 然后还有一个比较黑暗的叫土笋冻 They do it with worms 他们是用虫子做到 So don't check it by yourself 所以建议大家不要自己去查 We also have Fuzhou fish balls 还有一些比较经典的像福州鱼丸 And Putian noodles are very popular 还有莆田卤面都很受欢迎 They are delicious. 都很好吃 And then we have a great snack series 然后我们还有一个很好吃的零食系列 It is called eight dry food of western Fujian 叫闽西八大干 We have dried tofu, dried sweet potato and dried meat 我们有豆腐干 地瓜干 肉脯干 Dried rat/vegetable/radish/pig gall/bamboo shoots 老鼠干 菜干 萝卜干 猪胆干 笋干 I've tried about three or four kinds of them 我尝过里面的大概三四种 I think dried meat is really delicious 我觉得肉脯干真的非常好吃 I've always wanted to taste the dried rat meat 我一直都很想尝一下老鼠干 I hope I can have a try 希望有机会可以试一下 Of course 当然 There are more delicious foods in Fujian 福建好吃的不仅仅有这些 a lot more 还有很多很多啊 But there are some that I have never tried myself 但是有很多我自己也没有吃过 Neither familiar with 我也不熟悉 So it will be all for today 所以今天先跟大家介绍这么多 Let's talk about Fujian culture 接下来我们说一下福建的文化啊 When many Chinese people think of Fujian 很多中国人想到福建 They may think of a Hokkien song 可能会想起一首闽南语的歌 Success comes with your hard works 叫爱拼才会赢 Life is like ocean waves Sometimes go up and sometimes go down good luck or bad luck, we will have to move forward and work hard 30% is decided by our destiny, 70% is decided by our hard work, success comes with our hard works This song does represent Fujianese spirits of working hard 这首歌的确很好的代表了福建人会吃苦 And adventurous 也很有冒险精神 As I mentioned at the beginning, Fujian used to be very poor 就像我一开始提到的福建以前真的很穷 They have no choice in order to survive 为了生计没有办法 In some places, people even have to smuggle to earn foreign currency to support their families 有些地方的人甚至要偷渡去赚外汇来养家 Often like 比较常见的是 Japan 偷渡到日本 U.S.A 美国 Europe 欧洲 Even South America 甚至是南美 I remember that my friend's college roommate got engaged 我记得我朋友的大学舍友就是在他们大二的时候 with a Chinese guy that her family introduced 和家里介绍的一个男的(那个男的也是中国人) He runs a supermarket in Argentina 他在阿根廷开超市 And then they got engaged when they were sophomores 然后他们在大二的时候订婚了 The girl quit school 这个女的她就退学 And then smuggled to Argentina to meet her fiance 然后偷渡去阿根廷去找她的未婚夫 Wow 哇 I'm still shocked 我还是觉得很震惊 I can't understand it personally 那我个人是很不能理解的 Because I don't think marriage is that important to me 因为我觉得婚姻对我没有那么重要 Studying in the university is way more important 学习比较重要 So once Fujianese made some money abroad 然后可想而之有一些福建人在国外赚的钱 they will do some small business when they back to China 回到中国就会用这些钱做一些小生意 So Fujianese are also known as gifted business people 所以很多人提到福建人 也会觉得福建人很会做生意呀 Now Fujian's economy is much better than before 现在福建的经济的确比以前好很多 It's quite ok 算是还可以的 And then there's a very interesting fact 然后还有一个非常有趣的点 The transportation in Fujian was bad due to the mountains 是因为福建多山交通很不方便 so in the past 以前交通不方便的话 There's no way for people in two places to communicate 就两个地方的人就没有办法交流 So 所以啊 There are many dialects in Fujian 在福建的方言有很多很多种 Let alone that you are all Fujianese 不要说你们都是福建人 Even if you are from the same county 即使你们是一个县城的 You may not be able to communicate in your dialect 你们可能也没有办法用你们的方言交流 However 不过 Among so many dialects 在这么多方言当中 Hokkien dialect should be the most widely known one 闽南话应该是最广为人知的 The Hokkien in English 现在英文中说的Hokkien I think it mainly refers to the Southern Fujian language 我觉得应该指的主要指的就是闽南语 Because now besides southern Fujian 因为现在除了在闽南啊 There are also many Taiwanese 还有很多台湾人 Malaysian 马来西亚人 speak Hokkien 他们说的也是差不多的话 Due to the huge gap between Hokkien and Mandarin 也正是因为闽南语和普通话差的太多了 It's true that many fujianese can't speak Mandarin properly 的确有很多福建人的普通话不好 For example, for some Fujianese 比如对一些福建人来说 It's hard to pronounce the "F" as it doesn't exist in our dialects 发F的音很难 因为福建的方言中是没有F这个音的 So they'll pronounce F to H 所以他们会F发成H They may call the capital city of Fujian Province Fuzhou to Huzhou 他们可能会把福建的省会城市福州说成湖州 Or pronounce Chi fan to Chi Huan 然后会把吃饭说成吃饭 But now, of course, it doesn't really happen that often 但是当然现在可能这种情况比较少 But if it's the (elder) people in my hometown may still like that 但是如果是我家乡的人还是有可能的 So in other parts of China 所以在中国其他的地方 They also like to make fun of the fact that Fujianese Mandarin is not good 他们也很喜欢开福建人普通话不好的这个玩笑 But it's because of the influence of the dialects 但是也正是因为这个方言的影响 Some northern people may find the Fujianese's talking is sweet 一些北方人会觉得福建人讲话比较温柔 I remember the first time I went to Beijing 我记得我第一次去北京的时候 My classmates there said 那里的同学说 I have Taiwanese accent 说我有台湾腔 Because Taiwanese also speak Hokkien 因为台湾人也说的是闽南话 So this may lead us to talk in similar way 所以这可能导致我们和台湾人说话的习惯比较像 And then we thought Taiwanese accent sounds gentle 然后我们觉得台湾腔听起来很温柔 Very cute 很可爱 It's like being pouty(in a way that Chinese guys like haha) 很像是在撒娇 There are many interesting places in Fujian 福建有很多好玩的地方 For example, Wuyi Mountain 比如说武夷山 Dajin Lake, Taimu Mountain 大金湖 太姥山 Fujian Tulou(round shape building) 是土楼 Kulangsu Island, Three lanes and seven alleys 鼓浪屿 三坊七巷 And I think foreigners may be more interested in the round buildings 那我觉得外国人可能会对土楼比较感兴趣 Finally i want to tell you 最后说一下 The teas in Fujian are sooooo good! 福建的茶非常好啊 For example, oolong tea 比如说乌龙茶 Black tea 红茶 White tea and jasmine tea 白茶还有茉莉花茶 If you have a chance to come to my hometown 如果大家有机会的话 Make sure buy some tea 一定要去福建多买一点茶 And take it back 然后带回去 Because it can be very affordable 因为其实也不贵也很便宜 So
